We’re back for Week 4 of this Fall’s One Room Challenge! Weeks One, Two and, Three were full of progress. With the tedious task of flooring complete and out of the way, this week has had the most progress yet. There was so much on the to-do list and I’m super excited to say most of it has been checked off!
Removing the overly large builder grade mirror was first to get checked off this weeks list. Yay to hubby for getting it down without breaking it! Superstitious over here. Not really, but no one wants a chance of 7 years bad luck. Removing the mirror made such a huge difference. Theres no character in those giant mirrors. If you are new here or forgot what it looked like before, you can see it here. The mirror left large gobs of adhesive on the wall, so scrapping and sanding was an extra step not planned for but a must. Most projects yield unforeseen issues. Always plan a little extra time for things like this.
Priming the walls, 1) to cover up the mess made by the mirror and 2) in preparation for the wall treatment was another big to-do this week. For this step I chose KILZ 2 Multi-Purpose Latex Primer for its fast drying time, ability to hide color, block stains, and its mildew resistant properties- not sponsored, I just really like this product. Since we are working in a bathroom it was really important to add mildew resistance. We always use a fan when showering but its great to be extra cautious. And I looove the fast dry time! I can get very impatient when completing projects so KILZ was perfect.
HANDy paint products were and continue to be a big help with this project. I love that the HANDy paint trays are durable and rugged. They have this genius magnetic area to hold your brush as not to fall in the paint. If I showed you how messy my brush was you’d understand why I love this feature. I enjoy painting but am not the neatest and HANDy paint has definitely helped in that department.
And there you have it, I’ve just given you a peek at the wall treatments that are going in. Shiplap!!! Would you have expected anything else from me. I’m huge on adding charm to every space I create and the walls are no exception. Honestly, I think all walls need some short of treatment/trim to add character. Shiplap adds just that! [I have a really detailed post on DIY faux shiplap here.] The clean lines will help modernize this otherwise vintage style space. But shiplap is not all, I plan on adding something to the upper half of the walls too. That will be for Week 5.
Hopefully its smooth sailing from here on out. As you can see there is much left to do but we are so close to my fave part, the reveal! Be on the lookout for next weeks post where I will be addressing another to-do list, including:
- Finish painting walls and trim
- Get vanity to second floor and installed
- Install sinks and faucets
- Move electrical to accommodate new lighting
Thank you for stopping by and following along with my journey through the ORC! I hope to see you next week for Week 5. We are getting so close to the end, I cannot contain myself!
